Dying Light

Novel by Evan Chandler 1979.

A pregnant young woman loses her husband in a car accident and with nothing else to do, returns to her home town to look after her aged and dying mother. However her mother commits violent suicide and various other people are found murdered. Each and every time she sees the murder in her dreams. Her past soon catches up with her, as the locals remember back to events that happened around the time of her birth.

This is a good and overlooked novel covering religious mania and psychic research as well as doses of good old fashioned splatter. The plot seems unfortunately comparable with those dire tv suspense movies that crop up on TV with alarming regularity, but the gore is turned up a bit too high for that sort of film and Chandler, unlike the majority of their directors, has the talent to make his work attractive and worth sticking with. If this was six hundred pages longer, and set in Maine with misfit kids, it would have Stephen King on the cover and sell millions.
