The Hand of Dracula

Novel by Robert Lory 1973.

The first sequel to Dracula Returns is as much of a ripping yarn as its predecessor. Professor Damien Harmon controls Count Dracula in his fight against crime, but only just: the tension between the two is not hidden. So when Dracula proposes a bet that will at least clear the air for some time, Harmon takes it on. Jenny, Damien's niece comes to him with a plea for help: one of her friends at college is in jail with a murder charge hanging over him. If Harmon clears his name, Dracula will willingly do whatever the Professor asks for six whole months; if he fails, Dracula goes free...

Dracula Returns set the stage for a classic pulp series, The Hand of Dracula adds to the various standard plot devices already in place by introducing Jenny Harmon, the beautiful relative who seems to find herself in all sorts of strange fixes; as well as The Farm, a satanic commune in the Californian hills. Literary merit it might not have, but for good old fashioned entertainment in an extremely cheap and tacky vein this whole series delivers the goods.
