by Edward Keyes
Graceful girl in long black coat
strolling across the green
munching an apple. Somewhere behind me
sounds of canned carols.
Conjunction sets off thought-train.
Eden. Adam lay-y-bounden.
Our primal fall from grace.
Proximity of Christmas
and saint-fronted cathedral hint
at remedy and restoration.
Girl disappears round corner
oblivious of instigating
small motions in another's brain.
