Warring Halves (An Existential Sonnet)

by Gabriel Lee

Inside of me a raging war is fought.
One half the knowing thinking rational
Mind, ceaseless conflict with emotional
Being - between that I have felt and sought.
I dread this war's harsh web, here I am caught.
Are each of us kept now from standing tall
By the two warring halves held in our soul?
The truth I reach for, perhaps it is naught.

Those things I wish to know I have to learn,
I have to search and seek both far and near.
All things that I feel, Love pure, Pain or Fear,
Are always things that are rightfully earned.
For a peace with these foes is what I yearn,
Neither piece of me do I care to spurn.
